of summer…

Can you hear it?

Listen closely…

You can almost hear it…

In these final moments of summer, what do I hear?

I hear the sweet sounds of a childhood summer. Cherished and savored, but now regulated to memory and photograph.

Well, maybe you can’t hear it from where you are. So, I’ll just have to show you…

So how do the numbers add up?

10…swim goggles found, lost, purchased and/or stolen

9…weeks of no school

8…beaches of various shapes, sizes and colors

7…miles hiked

6…tubes of sunscreen purchased

5…minutes between screams and head butts

4…average baths per week (gross, but true)

3…Hawaiian islands visited

2…children growing too fast

1…fantastically bittersweet summer

One more number for you…55. And that number ain’t for the faint at heart, you see. That is the number of days at or above 100 degrees.

Only a few more minutes now…

But the memories, well, they will last a lifetime.

Now, can someone please turn off the heater?
